“Since the Couple's Retreat, we have made tremendous progress, the calendar being the foundation of focus for our goal setting. I see life as a series of achieved goals that build up to the overall goal in life. (This for us as a couple is the ’relationship legacy’) The Couple's Retreat really got us focused, on the same page in planning and moving ahead. I think before that point we would have been more comfortable in just letting things happen in their own sweet time, rather than taking more control in knowing what we are to do and to make it happen.

We would not have been able to do all of this without the support of those in the Practice Builder Program. To hear Mark talk about the encouragement he has received has made us realize we are not on our own. There have been times when we have been overwhelmed, but with those times we have had another open door that has confirmed our progress. We have been having our own 'team meetings' twice a month, it has helped to improve our communication and our work-together ability as we have had to make decisions together and stay consistent and focused, not letting the little obstacles distract us.

Mark's involvement in the PBP and the relationships he has formed there have been the 'key' to making this happen, and for him to discover what it is that he has a passion and purpose about. It is as if we have the puzzle box with the picture of what our life will look like and we are slowly fitting the pieces together. Thanks to the tools he has learned and for the Couple's Retreat that helped me understand what he has been learning. We are now able to move forward without as many wrong turns and bumps in the road because we are in the same car!

All the other fill in the blanks for our 'greatest life ever' seem to just add extra 'spice' to our life as we 'mix' together the ingredients. We look forward to continuing this journey we have begun...”

“We've been using the big calendar to coordinate our individual ones. It is a constant reminder for us to work on what is most important, our relationship as a couple and as a family.

This past month saw us take our greatest vacation ever - a combination of the beach with the kids and their friends; then a Mommy/Daddy trip to Jamaica, the following week. We certainly wouldn't mind repeating either or both of these vacations, to start a tradition of best vacations! Following through on this item was one of our established goals.

Overall, we have completed 4 of our goals for the year and have substantially completed another 2. Having a written reminder of our shared goals has been very helpful. We've also taken note to try and see through a couple of the individual goals, but 'our' goals, the common ones, are the priority. The exercise in recognizing and weighting the goals to understand our joint focus was very important. We'd like to revisit some of the individual goals as we work at completing our shared goals; allowing for the fulfillment and enrichment of both self and couple.

Timing of the original retreat was opportune for us. We recognized the need to rely on each other to pool our strength, but without the formal process of the retreat, fires consumed our energy, instead of our relationship feeding our strength to combat the fire. It was a great exercise to keep our heads clear and focused on what we needed to do to move forward.

For Regina, the Kolbe discussions and exercises provided a lot of insight into our/my frustrations and the proper mechanism is relating to one another's natural approach to being. It may not always be the first thing in mind when entering into a discussion or evaluating an issue, but it is near at mind and has aided on numerous occasions with conflict resolution and/or prevention.

The active learning’s and routines established as a result of the retreat, continue to provide great value to us some five-plus months later. We recognize that like all good things, a great relationship takes effort. Being a couple is not a passive sport.

Thank you for the opportunity to share in your experiences, learning and coaching. We look forward to participating in future Couples Retreats.”
